The professors: Catherine J. Lee, MD, MS, associate professor at the University of Washington and Clinical Research Division, Adult Long-Term Follow Up Program at Fred Hutch Cancer Center; and Anthony Sung, MD, the A. Drue Jennings Professor in Medical Oncology, professor of medicine in the Division of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics, scientific director of the Digital Health Co/Lab, and director of the Center for Survivorship and Patient-Oriented Research at the University of Kansas
Session title: Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs): From Research to the Clinic
Date, time, and location: Thursday, Feb. 5, 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. MST, Room 258 of the Salt Palace Convention Center

What is the focus of your session?
“We will discuss the development of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), domains for PROMs (function, symptoms, quality of life, social determinants of health (SDOH), etc.), PROM selection for research and for the clinic, and the future of PROMs in standard-of-care practice.”
How did you become interested in these themes?
“We realized that as the cancer survivor population expands, we need to pay more attention to not just survival, but also to function, quality of life and other aspects of survivorship that are important to patients and not easily assessed using conventional tools. We want to examine the potential for PROMs to improve outcomes for patients.”
What do you hope attendees will learn from your session?
“We hope they will learn which PROMs to consider incorporating into practice and strategies for how to implement them.”

How will the themes you introduce affect the next generation in your field?
“The incorporation of PROMs into studies is increasingly common, whether in behavioral interventions or in drug trials seeking FDA approval. We now need to develop strategies for how to use PROMs in the clinical setting to improve outcomes and to implement quality metrics for a program.”
What else do you want to share about your Meet-the-Professor session?
“The use and application of PROMs is a developing field with opportunities for growth. Our session will be an opportunity for those from different transplant programs to discuss how they are using or may use PROMs in different settings.”
Meet-the-Professor is a series of 12 hour-long luncheon sessions in the Scientific Track featuring presentations by esteemed leaders in the transplantation and cellular therapy community. Limited tickets are available for $25 per person, per session, each of which includes a meal. Advance registration is highly recommended and can be made during online registration. In-person ticket sales during the 2026 Tandem Meetings will be available at the registration desk if tickets remain.
